Elmec's New EDM Micro Drill.
This machine can drill holes in any metal from as small as 0.3mm in diameter to 3.0mm Maximum. This has been an invaluable tool for modifying all the various parts in the hot section of a turbine engine to provide more efficient cooling air flow. It also provides the air passages through the airfoil stem of first stage Turbine blades such as those required in the Rolls Royce Avon Mark 1533 model, which runs at a much higher Exhaust Gas Temperature than the older models of the engine. |
Shown right is the modification of a set of GE LM2500 nozzle guide vanes to permit better air flow cooling through the leading edge. This type of preventative maintenance assures longer part life between overhauls. |
Leading edge modification of a RR Industrial Spey HP nozzle guide vane. Experiments of this nature are invaluable in maximizing the part life and reducing premature wear. |

We regularly perform quality tests to confirm the accuracy of the drilling procedures. Shown are the cross sections of a blade verifying the calculated angles through a very complex airfoil path. |
Many of our clients have found applications suitable for other
conventional machining needs. The ability to drill starting holes for the
wire EDM machines has been a favorite as well as blind hole drilling
through a metal shape for cooling manifold passages.
Holes as small as a hair ( 0.009&) can be drilled into the most
complex small parts. What can we drill for you? |
